Nick was a good player. He played in tune, with a good amount of drive and intensity. He apparently was not a very enlightened man in many aspects. The fact that the man was a devout racist doesn't make him a poor player, he certainly was not. Bix Beiderbecke certainly didn't think so! The history of jazz and the history of this country is filled with unfair and shameful discriminatory episodes. There is no correcting them. We can however look ahead and create a better tomorrow.
