Leslie,
I downloaded a number of the transcripts and made a book of them. The interviewees certainly said a lot more than appeared in the series. It appeared that the interviewer, whether it was Burns or a fellow producer, improvised the question and answer sessions and took statements out to fit the story line that was being told for the particular episode.
I spoke to the producers Lynn Novick and Peter Miller and they said that they had 1000 hours of film to edit from. We have nine hundred and eighty more hours to see. Hopefully much of that footage can be put onto videotape and sent to the Rutgers Institute for Jazz Studies for reference and future scholarship.
Miller told me that they contacted Norman Grantz and he allowed the use of a Charlie Parker film that he and Jon Milli shot as a followup to "Jammin' the Blues," but never released...until "Jazz."
