My idea of "real jazz" is a bit wider, stretching from trad to fusion, from bebop to the avant-garde and all types of combinations.
Jazz is in a golden age that started in 1895 and continues to this time. Even if one is just talking about classic prebop jazz, obviously it is booming on an artistic level these days. All one has to do is look at all the festivals and recordings. But then again, who said that Ken Burns knows anything about jazz?
