Although heavy handed, the footage and references to lynchings I think are appropriate to this series and appropriate for young people to see. Think of Dave Brubecke's story about him seeing the man w the brand on his chest and his father tellng him, "These things should never happen." It left an impression on young Dave that has ultimately done good things for music and humanity. I do think that Branford's use of the "F" word and something else (I cannot remember now) was out of place and un-needed.
